Crowns

To repair and restore primary teeth

Small cavities can be treated with a filling. However, if the decay has significantly affected the tooth a dentist may recommend a crown.

There are several reasons your child may need a crown including:
  • decay
  • dental defects causing teeth to be soft
  • a broken tooth
  • a primary tooth that has not developed properly

Crowns may be recommended as an alternative to removing a baby tooth. Restoring a primary tooth is essential for esthetics as well as development and function.

Removing primary teeth prematurely can negatively interfere with a child's speech and food consumption.

It is also important to keep primary teeth healthy so that permanent teeth come in correctly. This will reduce the chance of needing extensive orthodontic treatment later.

Pediatric crowns are designed to look and function like real teeth.
