All-On-X Implants
When you need to have teeth replaced, you’ll find that there are now many different options to try. Among them is an implant called an all-on-X implant, which can give back up to 95% of your chewing ability and leave you with a complete set of natural-looking teeth at the end of your office visit.
This kind of implant is helpful for anyone who needs or currently uses dentures but is unhappy with them. It can replace your entire set of teeth if required.
Here is more about all-on-X implants from NKC Dental in North Kansas City, MO.
What Are All-on-X Implants?
All-on-X implants are unique. They include a dental prosthetic (an entire arch of teeth) that is mounted onto several dental implants strategically placed around the mouth. Depending on the patient’s bone density and other needs, there may be as few as four and up to eight implants per arch.
All-on-X implants are lightweight and thin, making them look and feel as natural as possible. While they do involve several titanium implants, the prosthetic can be installed on the same day. And you won’t need a single implant for each tooth, saving time and money.
How Do All-on-X Implants Work?
When All-on-X implants are a possible solution for a patient, the process starts with an initial consultation and plan for the arches. Your dentist will examine your dental history, oral health, bone density, and medical history. You may need X-rays and 3D imaging, such as a CT scan, to determine if you will be a good candidate for All-on-X implants.
After determining that you are a good candidate for the dental implant, the surgery will go ahead. During the surgical procedure, implants made of titanium are inserted into the jawbone.
Depending on several factors, such as bone density and the size of your mouth, you may receive between four and eight dental implants per arch.
This is not performed in a single office visit. You will receive a temporary prosthesis on the same day as your surgery, and it will be functional. However, you will need to come back to the office for another examination and to get your permanent prosthesis once your jawbone has time to heal. The healing time is typically several months.
Why Choose All-on-X Implants?
All-on-X implants can be an excellent choice for replacing a full mouth of missing teeth or for replacing the majority of the teeth in the mouth. It is not just a cosmetic procedure. By using this type of prosthetic and implant process, you are given back the stable foundation you need to chew, smile, and speak without the issues associated with traditional dentures.
When you lose a tooth, the jawbone may erode. You will appreciate All-on-X dental implants because they help preserve the bone that makes up the jaw. Maintaining this bone density is vital to the structure of the jaw and your skull.
In addition to replacing your teeth and preserving the jawbone, all-on-X implants are often preferred because of their cost-effectiveness and quick results. Compared to replacing each tooth with an individual implant, all-on-X implants are typically less expensive. And they are long-lasting. Usually, they can last for several decades.
While you won’t leave with your permanent prosthetics in place, you will have a temporary prosthetic placed on the same day. While you should be cautious and follow the appropriate steps to heal while wearing temporary prosthetics, you can still use your teeth, speak normally, and chew right away.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-X Implants?
Good candidates for All-on-X implants are those who have enough jawbone (or are willing to get bone augmentation to build out the bone) for the implants to hold and who don’t have medical problems that could hinder the healing process.
Most people who get All-on-X implants have already lost most or all of their teeth and may be unhappy with how their traditional dentures look or feel.
This dental restoration technique can be the perfect solution to give you back the look and functionality of your teeth. Our team at NKC Dental will be happy to talk to you more about if you are a strong candidate for this procedure.
