Digital X-rays

To create instant digital imaging of your mouth and jaw

Digital x-rays, also known as dental radiographs, use very small bursts of radiation to create images of the internal structure of your mouth and jaw. An electronic sensor is used to capture and instantly project images onto a computer.

Though radiation from a traditional x-ray is considered safe, digital x-rays have up to 70% less radiation. The process leads to increased efficiency and comfort for you.

Digital x-rays are able to detect decay and disease earlier than possible with a basic exam. They can be used to detect:

  • cavities
  • bone or gum loss
  • periodontal disease
  • benign or malignant tumors
  • and other normal or abnormal structures within the lower portion of the head

In children and teens, digital x-rays are useful for finding un-erupted permanent teeth and imaging root structures in preparation for orthodontic work.

When should you get digital x-rays?

Though digital x-rays use radiation, they are not dangerous when used occasionally. In fact, they are a crucial component of a complete program of oral hygiene. You should receive x-rays according to your dentist’s recommendations. These x-rays are essential to early detection of tooth decay which will save you time, money and pain in the long run.
