Enamel Abrasion

To restore enamel

It can be surprisingly easy to damage your teeth without meaning to. Enamel abrasion is when you begin to lose enamel due to an external force, in other words you are physically wearing down your teeth.

Enamel abrasion occurs over time as the enamel is worn down by activities such as:

  • nail biting
  • using a toothbrush with hard bristles
  • aggressively brushing
  • chewing on pen tips or other hard surfaces

What are the signs?

Signs of enamel abrasion include a dark area on your tooth and sensitivity.

What is the treatment?

In early stages there are treatments to protect and cover up the exposed dentin, otherwise veneers may be used to protect the teeth.
