Inlay & Onlay Restorations
Inlays and onlays are typically used when a cavity is too large to be filled with a simple filling. Unlike fillings that are molded into place the day of the visit, inlay and onlays are created in a dental lab.
Both inlays and onlays durable and with proper care. Other advantages include:
- Aesthetic appearance: custom made to match the color, shape and structure of the teeth.
- Stain-resistant: not likely to discolor over time
- Strength and stability: more resistant to fractures and damage than traditional cavity fillings
A dental inlay is pre-molded filling fitted into the grooves of your tooth. They can be used to restore cavities in the center of the tooth, which have not progressed to more extensive tooth decay. Inlays match the color of your teeth and provide an almost invisible fix.
A dental onlay is used to repair teeth that have more extensive damage that has spread to the cusp of the tooth. An onlay covers the edge of the teeth, on to the chewing of the teeth to replace cusps.
