White, Ceramic, and Gold Fillings

To repair and restore teeth that are damaged or decayed
Cavities are formed due to the long term build up of plaque on the surface of your teeth. Plaque is highly acidic and attacks your tooth enamel, leading to holes and dark spots on your teeth. Dental fillings are used to repair and restore teeth that are damaged or decayed. Typically, fillings are used after removing a cavity. The filling is affixed to the tooth surface, thereby restoring its original strength.

The Procedure

During the procedure your dentist will numb your teeth, gums, and the surrounding skin. Once your mouth is numb, your dentist will drill out the decay from your tooth. This will stop bacteria from spreading and causing more damage, but it won’t repair pre-existing damage. A filling is used to literally fill the part of your tooth the decay destroyed There are three main types of direct cavity fillings available. They vary in materials cost, lifespan, insurance coverage and doctors recommendations.

White

White fillings, also referred to as composite fillings, are made of a tooth-colored acrylic resin. It is the most common restorative material used for cavity fillings, broken teeth, and chipped teeth. They are strong, durable and blend in with the natural color of your teeth.

Ceramic

Ceramic fillings are made from porcelain, which is almost an identical match for the tooth's natural color. They are strong, and ideal for patients who want a long-lasting restoration with aesthetics at the forefront.

Gold

Gold fillings are highly durable. They can last ten to fifteen years on average and sometimes longer. Gold fillings protect weakened teeth cusps caused by trauma, decay, or deep cavities. Some people find them less appealing than other materials, however they are stronger and less prone to damage.
